| LUCERNE - WILLISAU From Lucerne, the route runs along the bluish green Reuss to Reusszopf, where the streams Emme and Reuss meet. Shortly thereafter, an almost surprising stillness envelopes the forest and fields, and then the Baldegger Lake and Sempacher Lake, bordered by reeds appear, soothing the eyes and nerves. And the rider can taste the bitter sweet Willisauer Ringli at the pretty little destination town. WILLISAU - SÖRENBERG The Entlebuch District, the Biosphere Preserve, is a land of mysterious woods and grasslands. Fortune hunters still look for gold nuggets in the rivers and streams here. Nowhere else in Switzerland are so many and such expansive moors preserved as one coherent moor landscape as in the Entlebuch region. SÖRENBERG - FLÜELI/SACHSELN The alpine marchland near the Glaubenbielen Pass is wild and bizarre. The flat Sarnersee on the other hand, with its Obwaldner Bruder-Klausen-landscape is quaint and lovable. The baroque pilgrimage church in Sachseln holds the remains of St. Nicholas of Flüe. The slopes of the hills are home to the diligent dairy industry, and the green meadows are dotted with brown farmhouses with steep baroque gable tops and umbrella roofs in front. FLÜELI/SACHSELN - LUCERNE A wild forest speckled with jagged pieces of cliffs, this enchanted deep wood separates the two halves of the cantons of Obwalden and Nidwalden. In Stans, the Winkelried memorial in the village square reminds us of the heroic deeds of the Swiss. The sublime Lake Lucerne is a complex body of water, often mild, but uncommonly choppy when there is a foehn blowing. |
