Also called the «Wine Route», the trail is almost always flat but with head winds at times
– rated easy, ideal for everybody including families with children. Combining the alpine
scenery of the Rhone Glacier near Oberwald with the lush valley of the Rhone in the Valais
and the famous «Swiss Côte d'Azur» along the Lake of Geneva, the route ends up in the
international metropolis of Geneva.
The Furkapass – one of the highest Alpine passes in Switzerland – falls into the «Power
Class» category. Leisure cyclists should therefore start the tour in Oberwald im Goms. Here,
the landscape is alpine in nature and the route mostly runs downhill with a few slopes. From
Brig to Genf, the route is almost entirely flat and is particularly suitable for leisure cyclists.
The only thing likely to bother cyclists are the thermal headwinds on warm Summer afternoons. |
