BERNESE AARE CANOE

DAY TRIP THUN - BERN 28 km
The Aare – the «national river» when it comes to canoeing in Switzerland – is a cool Alpine river when it leaves the Thunersee lake, although its waters are extremely clear and its current strong. The river flows through 3 obstacles of note: the ‘Uttiger Schwelle’ (an area of powerful waves and swirls) and the bridge piers in Münsingen und Muri. It should also be noted that there are no eddies on the Aare at the disembarking point in Bern and therefore strong paddling is required to reach the destination point.

Highlights of the Aare route include the fast current, the emerald-green waters, the white gravel banks before the backdrop of lush green vegetation, the wild water-meadow landscapes amidst the densely populated areas and arrival in the capital of Bern.
